Vinexpo New York cancels 2021 show

Trade show Vinexpo New York has cancelled its 2021 fair due to the “ongoing risks” of the coronavirus pandemic.

The trade show’s organisers Diversified Communications and Vinexposium announced yesterday (27 October) the cancellation of the show, which was due to be held on 3-4 February 2021 at Jacob K Javits Center.

The organisers made the decision due to the “ongoing risks of Covid-19 and the uncertainty surrounding the lifting of travel restrictions and bans on large gatherings”.

The trade fair will be back in 2022 with the aim of providing a “more safe, productive, and enjoyable in-person gathering” in line with state and venue regulations.

“As show organisers of an international trade event which draws thousands of attendees from across North America and exhibitors from all corners of the world, it became evident that a live event of our kind would not be possible in February,” said Beckie Kier, event director of Vinexpo New York.

“We are now planning for the 2022 edition, while continuing to support our industry members with resources and tools to help them conduct business during these challenging times.”

Kier added that the decision is “in the best interests” of the community and the show’s partners.

Rodolphe Lameyse, CEO of Vinexposium, said: “In the light of the pandemic situation and its current spread, it is a reasonable and wise decision to cancel this most awaited event in New York. It is an unfortunate step backwards, but I have no doubt that the rebound will be much higher in 2022. Together with the team of Diversified Communications, we are already looking forward to it and I have a lot of hope for the future.”

More details on the 2022 show will be revealed in the coming months.

In September this year, Vinexpo New York launched a series of online seminars to help brands launch in the US. The second webinar in the series will take place tomorrow (29 October), and will look at where the US market is headed in the next six to 12 months.

Vinexpo is due to hold its Paris show on 15 to 17 February next year, followed by its Hong Kong fair from 23 to 25 February 2021.
