Ukiyo gains Ocado listing

Kirker Greer Spirits-owned brand Ukiyo has secured a listing with British online supermarket Ocado.

Ukiyo Japanese Spirits’ three expressions Tokyo Dry Gin, Blossom Gin, and Japanese Rice Vodka – are now on the online supermarket platform for RRP £30-£32 (US$38-US$41) per 700ml bottle, each with a 40% ABV.

The listing with Ocado, the UK’s largest online grocer, expands Ukiyo’s presence in the UK; it is already stocked at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and various independent retailers.

Ryan McFarland, chief commercial and strategy officer of Drinksology Kirker Greer, said: “The UK is a key market for our business and brands; securing a listing with Ocado is another step forward for Ukiyo as we continue to grow the brand in both the off- and on-premise channels.

“Asian spirits are tipped to be one of the hottest trends over the coming years, and we are excited for more people to experience our award-winning spirits and share the essence of Japanese craftsmanship Ukiyo is proud of.”

Kirker Greer Spirits added that the partnership with Ocado is expected to ‘significantly enhance Ukiyo’s visibility and accessibility in the UK’, while ‘paving the way for further growth’.

Ukiyo, which means ‘floating world,’ is said to symbolise the ethos of living in the moment. It is produced in Chiba, east of Tokyo, with rice and ingredients found in the mountains and coastlines of Japan to create ‘delicately aromatic’ gins and ‘fragrant’ vodka.

In March, the brand created a campaign in honour of Japan’s cherry blossom season.

Ukiyo Japanese Spirits joins other brands from Kirker Greer’s portfolio on Ocado, which includes Jawbox Irish gins and gin liqueurs, Kirker Shamrock Irish Whiskey, Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Ginato Italian Gins.

Last year, Kirker Greer Spirits invested millions into its future growth in the UK and Ireland.
