Symposium Spirits brings Bush Rum to market

Independent spirits merchant Symposium Spirits has taken on the distribution of a new rum brand, called Bush Rum, thought to be the first presented in a 100% recycled glass bottle.

Created by UK-based independent drinks company Burlington Drinks, the Bush Rum range currently consists of Bush Rum Spiced and Bush Rum Mango.

The bottle is fully recyclable, and features a recycled cork and labels made from 95% recycled sugarcane, a by-product from rum production.

Bush Rum Original Spiced is said to have notes of ginger, cinnamon and caramel with traditional Guyanese rum.

Bush Mango Rum is made by distilling ripe mangoes into a distillate, which is then blended with the Original Spiced Rum.

Both rums have been bottled at 37.5% ABV and priced at RRP £22 (US$29) per 700ml. They are available to purchase from Ocado and bushrum.co.uk.

Rosie Thomas, brand manager for Bush Rum, said: “The 100% recycled glass bottles could contain glass from a beer, wine or spirit bottle you recently recycled. Each has a slightly different colouring, shape or scratch on it, and a story to tell.”

London-based producer Hayman Distillers moved into distribution in January this year with the launch of Symposium.
