Stirling Distillery unveils first whiskies

Scotland’s Stirling Distillery has launched a series of single cask whiskies as its inaugural whisky release.

Founded by husband and wife June and Cameron McCann, the Stirling Distillery currently produces gin at its site in the Scottish city of Stirling. The duo have now bottled their first whiskies under its Sons of Scotland series, two single cask expressions named after Stirlingshire distilleries that were operational during the 18th and early 19th century.

Sons of Scotland The Cashly and Sons of Scotland The Arngibbon are both made using sourced whisky that has matured in ex-Bourbon hogsheads for eight years. The Cashly was distilled at a Highland distillery and The Arngibbon comes from a Speyside producer.

Each bottled at 46% ABV, the two whiskies are available to purchase from the distillery’s website for £50 (US$68) per 700ml bottle.

The Cashly is said to have aromas of eucalyptus and green apple followed by flavours of butter toast, stewed apples and a gentle spice pepper. The Arngibbon meanwhile offers aromas of custard creams, peaches, vanilla and a hint of heather moor, followed by notes of oak and soft butter tablet on the palate.

Stirling Distillery plans to add two further expressions to the label, using whiskies sourced from Lowland and Island distilleries in Scotland.

Cameron McCann, co-founder of Stirling Distillery, said: “We’re pleased and proud to be releasing whisky from the Castle Rock. What makes us especially excited about our Sons of Scotland range is the chance to start a new chapter in Stirling’s whisky history while celebrating Stirlingshire’s rich whisky-making heritage.”

Stirling Distillery will also begin producing its own new-make spirit onsite this year and hopes to release its first single malt in 2024. According to the producer, this will mark the first time that Scotch whisky has been produced at Abbey Craig, in Stirling.
