With consumers frequently seeking spirits with provenance, we highlight two organic vodkas that secured Gold medals in our latest taste test.
Every year, The Spirits Business hosts its annual Vodka Masters competition. Due to the pandemic, this year’s competition was held virtually for the first time with judges tasting the bottlings blind from their homes in August.
The competition awarded a mammoth number of Master, Gold and Silver medals to entrants, including super-premium Polish brand Zouk/Extill Organic Single Estate Vodka from Neilson Europe. The products, which share the same formula, stormed to success in the Organic flight.
The Gold medal-winning expressions are produced with Dankowskie platinum rye, which spends a minimum of 80 days under the snow before it is harvested. According to the producer, Dankowskie is the most premium winter grain in the world and is grown in a cold and snowy region in Poland.
The sustainable rye is distilled a minimum of seven times and blended with glacial water until the cut is manually decided by the master distiller. The vodkas are made without the use of additives.
On the nose, the vodkas have mild floral notes, with distant meadowsweet and dried heather. The palate offers nutmeg, apple peel and peach slices.
