Scratch British Rum launches botanical bottling

English brand Scratch British Rum has expanded its range with a botanical bottling and a blend of two-year-old and three-year-old rums.

Produced at a microdistillery in the village of Benington in Hertfordshire, Scratch British Rum has become the latest producer to launch a botanical rum.

The new rum spent two years in development and is made using six botanicals sourced responsibly in the UK. The resulting liquid has tropical flavour notes derived from British plants.

The botanical rum (42% ABV) is recommended served over ice with tonic water and garnished with a slice of orange.

Scratch founder and distiller, Doug Miller, said: “We’ve developed a rum that uses native British botanicals – creating a spirit that is a refreshing alternative to a gin. With the spiced rum market oversaturated, we wanted to create a product that was true to our roots as a business – making premium rums using British produce as much as possible.”

Meanwhile, Patience Rum is made with a blend of three-year-old ex-Bourbon cask rum and two-year-old new oak cask rum. The rum has notes of vanilla, banana and fudge. It has been fermented, distilled and aged in the UK.

The 42% ABV rum is recommended served neat or in cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.

The new bottlings join the Scratch range, which includes a golden rum and a white rum.

Scratch Botanical Rum is priced at £42 (US$55) per 700ml bottle, while Patience Rum is priced at £72 (US$95) per 700ml bottle. Both expressions are available to buy online from the Scratch British Rum website.
