Dutch distributor Salud Spirits has unveiled two Chichibu Symphony editions as part of the Spirits of Salud range.
Salud is the official importer of the Japanese whisky in the Netherlands and Austria,
The two new editions, Allegro and Allargando, represent Chichibu master blender Ichiro Akuto’s ability to combine world whiskies into compelling expressions.
Released as part of the Spirits of Salud range, the two Ichiro’s Malt & Grain whiskies are named after different music styles.
According to Salud, each whisky in the blends were chosen by Akuto to create a symphony of flavours, ‘like musical instruments with their unique notes coming together in perfect harmony and unison’.
The first of the new expressions, Allargando, is named after a term describing a slower, quieter style of music. The blend is said to unfold with a slowly building intensity, with each layer of the whisky showing its full richness.
Offered at 59.2% ABV, Allargando displays notes of cherry, strawberry syrup, candied plum and floral aromas of orchid and dahlia, joined on the palate by cherry chocolate, espresso and caramelised pecans.
The non-age statement single cask blend was aged in a first-fill Sherry hogshead and is limited to 270 bottles.
The second release, Allegro, celebrates a lively, exuberant and fast-paced music style.
Aged in a single third-fill ex-peated Bourbon barrel, the blend offers aromas of smoked mackerel, barbecue, tropical fruits and vanilla, with roast beef, Manuka honey and candied pineapple notes on the the palate.
Allegro is limited to 240 bottles at 60% ABV.
Both expressions will be made available in February 2025 and feature a QR code leading to a Spotify list representing the music styles.
Last December, Salud Spirits held an official launch event for the penultimate release of the Chichibu 7even Gods of Fortune series.
Earlier this month, Salud’s managing director Maurice van Vliet attended Moutai Kweichow’s 2025 distributors’ meeting and raised questions about the baijiu brand’s price hikes for 2025.
