Rosebank releases 33YO for GTR

Lowland Rosebank Distillery has introduced a 33-year-old, single cask expression exclusively to global travel retail (GTR).

Limited to only 107 bottles, the rare 1990 single cask 3469 was drawn from the resurrected distillery’s legacy stock, which was left behind when it closed more than 30 years ago.

William Ovens, head of global travel retail at Ian MacLeod Distillers, said: “We are delighted to be launching this very special and extremely rare 33-year-old Rosebank single cask in GTR.

“This expression is a reflection of the unique production process, which juxtaposes triple distillation with worm tub condensers to compose a captivating whisky. With only 107 bottles available, it’s a unique opportunity to own a special part of Rosebank’s history.”

Described as ‘delicate and floral’, the whisky offers tropical notes on the nose, cinnamon and chamomile on the palate, and oak on the finish.

The 33-year-old single malt is bottled at 46.6% ABV and presented in a natural wood tube with a metal lattice on the base shaped like rose petals.

Retailing for £5,500 (US$6,947), the limited release is available in GTR from Avolta and Taiwan Duty Free, including at Edinburgh, London Heathrow, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Zurich and Taipei Airports.

Emma Oakes, blender at Rosebank, added: “This is an exceptional dram, available exclusively to global travellers looking for rare finds to expand their collection. This whisky perfectly exemplifies the qualities that earned Rosebank reverence as the ‘King of the Lowlands’.”

Owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, Rosebank Distillery reopened on 7 June 2024 after being mothballed in 1993.

The distillery’s four-year restoration preserved much of the history of the original buildings.

In May this year, Ian Macleod announced the construction of Laggan Bay Distillery on Islay in collaboration with The Islay Boys.
