Diageo-owned Roe & Co has released a 13-year-old Irish whiskey matured in Port casks as its inaugural single malt.
Roe & Co Cask Strength 2020 Edition is the first single malt Irish whiskey from the brand. It is the second expression to be released as part of a limited edition series, following the launch of a cask strength whiskey aged in Bourbon casks last year.
Bottled at natural cask strength (58% ABV), the 2020 edition showcases the flavour of the whiskey straight from the barrel. The liquid spent all 13 years in Port casks, providing the final product with a velvety texture, molasses, honey roast barley, hints of fresh ground coffee and cherry ripe chocolate bars.
Alan Mulvihill, global brand ambassador at Roe & Co, said: “For me this is perhaps my most anticipated release to date, not because of its age or because of the fact that it is a single malt but because once again we get to shine a light on the inherent base processes of whiskey production; excellently distilled Irish spirit, amazing casks and no interruption by human contact. This is whiskey at its most raw and I love it.”
Roe & Co Cask Strength 2020 Edition is available to buy in Ireland from 9 November at specialist whiskey stores, drinks retailer O’Briens and the Roe & Co distillery in Dublin. It is priced at €74 (US$86) in the Republic of Ireland and £50 (US$64) in Northern Ireland.
Roe & Co is available in the UK and the US with further expansion planned for 2020.
In June last year, Diageo kicked off production at its Roe & Co distillery.
