If you have missed Patrón Tequila’s coffee-flavoured liqueur, XO Cafe, you’re in luck as it is making a limited-time comeback.
Bacardi originally made the call to discontinue the expression in late 2021, so it could focus on Patrón’s core products: the brand’s silver, reposado, añejo and other super-premium and ultra-premium Tequilas.
Mauricio Vergara, president and chief operating officer, Patrón Tequila, had said: “With the explosion of the Tequila category, our focus is on growing and protecting production and supply of our core super- and ultra-premium Tequilas.”
In the time since its departure, however, the expression has taken on a ‘cult’ status with fans rushing to grab bottles of the liqueur while they still could, as well as pushing Patrón to bring it back.
Now, Bacardi has answered the call and XO Cafe will be available on a ‘one-time, limited-quantity’ basis, only in the US and until supplies last.
It will retail for US$42.99 per 750ml bottle.
The expression, bottled at 35% ABV, combines a mix of Patrón Tequila and Arabica coffee.
It offers notes of vanilla, chocolate and light Tequila, and is recommended sipped neat, enjoyed as a dessert ingredient or as the base in cocktails such as an Espresso Martini.
Patrón is one of the world’s biggest Tequila brands, and sold 3.5 million cases in 2022, as reported in The Brand Champions 2023.
Last year, the Tequila brand launched El Cielo, which is distilled four times. The expression ranked 11 in The Spirits Business‘ list of most innovative launches from 2023.
