Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue Bourbon Heads to Retail

The latest release from Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Co. is a 16-year-old Tennessee bourbon named Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue.

Announced this morning, this new expression comes from historic Cascade Hollow Distillery in Tullahoma, Tenn. Like other large U.S. distilleries, this facility sells sourced whiskey to many different companies — but Cascade Hollow is better known for producing George Dickel Tennessee Whisky.

The older barrels in this new whiskey release were discovered by Cascade Hollow General Manager and Distiller Nicole Austin. Austin is known for her selection and blending of barrels from the Cascade Hollow collection, including for George Dickel’s popular single barrel and bottled in bond programs.

Barrels used for the latest Orphan Barrel release come from the facility’s single-story rickhouses. These buildings draw inspiration from traditional Scottish barrel storage, the company says, and are unique site for the U.S

Cascade Hollow General Manager and Distiller Nicole Austin.

Copper Tongue Bourbon is the second Orphan Barrel release from Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., following the 2016 release of Orphan Barrel Whoop & Holler 28-Year-Old. However, this is the first Orphan Barrel overseen by Austin, who was promoted into her role in 2018.

“Since joining the team at Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., I’ve loved getting to explore all the incredible whiskies produced at the distillery. In that process, I’ve been excited to have found such an amazing whiskey to give a home to,” says Austin. “Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue brings together traditions from both American and Scotch whiskeys, and the result is a sophisticated straight bourbon that’s surprisingly delicate. With this release, I can’t wait to share this rare whiskey with the world and showcase a bit of the magic that can comes from Cascade Hollow.”

This 16-year-old bourbon has a mellow profile balanced by juicy bursts of candied orange and hints of cedar, the distillery reports. Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue is 89.8 proof.

Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue — like others before it in this collectable series — is a highly limited release. Beginning this June, the new variant begins rolling out in select markets across the nation for a suggested retail price of $100 per 750-ml. bottle. The post Orphan Barrel Copper Tongue Bourbon Heads to Retail first appeared on Beverage Dynamics.
