Tippling Club reveals new menu

Singapore-based Tippling Club has invited guests to discover ‘the tracks of their years’ with the launch of the third volume of its cocktail menu.

The Guide to Modern Drinking, Volume III – 6 Decades of Music, draws inspiration from head bartender Arathorn Grey’s love of music.

“Music has always been a major part of my life,” said Grey. “Like most of us, my life and career have been accompanied by a soundtrack through the decades.

“I wanted to bring this idea to the curation of a menu of cocktails, with each drink delivering something of the sound, vibe, theme, or emotion of a song we remember from a time in our lives, or even a blast from a time before us.

“I’m excited to bring this sensory experience to our guests in this latest edition of A Guide To Modern Drinking.”

The menu highlights six decades of music, offering a wide selection of crafted tipples inspired by hits and jams over the years, with each of the 31 serves on the menu paying homage to an artist and their music.

Each serve is named after an artist and one of their songs, and continues on from the ‘gastronomical journey’ of the Volume I and Volume II menus. All menus have championed exotic and uncommon ingredients, blended together with contemporary techniques.

Patrons are invited to download the playlist that accompanies the drinks on Spotify.

Guests can expect to journey through the decades via each of the drinks, starting in the 1940s with three cream-based cocktails, including White Christmas by Bing Crosby, which offers a sweet and creamy festive start, with Metaxa, ‘Christmas mix’, ‘snowflake’, cacao and cream.

In the rock-and-roll-inspired 1950s section of the menu, Learnin’ The Blues by Frank Sinatra offers a nod to the Rat Pack member’s Italian heritage and his drink of choice: Jack Daniel’s on the rocks. To elevate the drink, Grey spent two weeks treating a barrel-aged cask with ruby Port, before ageing a blend of rye whisky, amontillado Sherry and Punt E Mes, to provide the drink with a full-bodied flavour.

Simon and Garfunkel are honoured with a Scarborough Fair-inspired serve that fuses Tequila, vermouth, peach, sage, rosemary and thyme, while star of the 1970s, Fleetwood Mac, is represented with Gold Dust Woman, a Champagne cocktail made with Lord Ryan’s Gin and a gold-plated ice block.

Cocktails inspired by music from the MTV era of the 1980s include a clear Martini-style cocktail made with bergamot, Nicaraguan rum, hops and Sudachi in homage to Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson, while Funky Monks by Red Hot Chilli Peppers is a cocktail that represents the 1990s era of pop, rap and alternative music.

A selection of non-alcoholic cocktails is available for those seeking ‘a sophisticated spirit-free alternative’ and includes five serves made exclusively with Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits.

In addition, the bar offers The Louis XIII Experience: cocktails served in Louis XIII baccarat crystal glasses, with highlights including Barbotage, a balance of Louis XIII, Champagne and orange oils, ‘for the ultimate splendour’.
