Starward expands GTR presence

Australian whisky brand Starward has partnered with DFS Group to boost its presence in US travel retail.

Starward whiskies will be available in international airports in the following US cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and JFK New York, as well as Honolulu in Hawaii.

The partnership will take effect in November this year.

Scott English, Starward commercial sales director, said: “Global travel retail is an important opportunity for Starward.

“It is an unparalleled opportunity to engage with an audience who are keen to discover and explore something new. To be able to partner with DFS, we are now able to access a large portion of the world’s travellers, right as they are looking to discover what the world has to offer.”

The Starward core range of whiskies will be available in one-litre bottles.

The range comprises Nova, a single malt matured in red wine barrels (RRP US$69); Solera, a whisky matured in Australian apera barrels (RRP US$95); and 100 Proof, also known as Fortis in Australia, which is matured in American oak red wine barrels (US$95).

Marie d’Hautevill, senior vice-president spirits, wine tobacco, food and gifts and partnerships from DFS Group, added: “We are pleased to partner with Starward to bring this modern, forward-thinking and highly-awarded whisky to all our North America airport locations.

“This is another great example of new world innovation adding a new and exciting element to the traditional whisky market which we look forward to introducing to our travelling customers.”

Starward was founded in 2007 by David Vitale. The brand has since grown globally, with sales in New Zealand, the US, Germany, the UK, France and Japan.

Other travel retail partners include Dufry, Heinemann, Lotte and Lagardère.

The whisky brand was awarded the Taste Master accolade in the 2022 World Whisky Masters.
