Spirit Master: Gradusnik

To mark National Vodka Day (4 October) this month, SB celebrates an acclaimed super-premium expression that scored one of the top accolades in a blind tasting.

Every year, The Spirits Business hosts its annual Luxury Masters competition. Due to the pandemic, this year’s competition was held virtually for the first time with judges tasting the bottlings blind from their homes in September.

To determine the standard in the super‐premium and ultra‐premium sectors, SB gathered a group of expert judges over Skype for the competition. The competition assessed super-premium-plus products across categories such as Scotch, vodka, Cognac, rum and Tequila.

A flight of super-premium vodkas saw five Gold medals awarded including one to AYU’s Gradusnik vodka. The expression stormed to success in the round and was praised for having “creaminess” on the palate and “some minerality”.

AYU is the largest alcoholic beverage company in Kyrgyzstan. The drinks company uses creative packaging to make its products stand out on retail shelves.

The Gradusnik bottle was inspired by the pharmaceutical industry, with its shape and design taking cues from an old-style medical thermometer.

AYU has global ambitions for its company and hopes that Gradusnik becomes as iconic as the bottle designs of Absolut and Grey Goose.
