Sipsmith creates gin using Wimbledon strawberries

Beam Suntory-owned Sipsmith gin has launched a strawberry-infused bottling to mark its partnership with the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

Sipsmith Strawberry Smash Gin (40% ABV) is the second expression in the brand’s limited edition Sipping Series, following the release of Sipsmith Chilli & Lime Gin last year.

The new bottling marks the first year Sipsmith has served as the official gin partner of The Championships, Wimbledon.

The expression is made by blending English mint with ripe strawberries from Hugh Lowe Farms in Kent, the exclusive grower of strawberries for Wimbledon. The strawberries, from the 2020 harvest, and mint are combined with the brand’s London Dry Gin.

Sipsmith master distiller, Jared Brown, said: “This year with Sipsmith becoming the official gin partner of Wimbledon we felt it was quite right to harness the taste of British summertime and use last year’s Championships strawberries to make this year’s champion gin.

“As with all of our innovative gins we crafted Strawberry Smash to our exacting standards by layering complimentary sweet ripe strawberries, fresh English mint and refreshing citrus fruits on top of our original London Dry Gin base to create a delightfully fruity and refreshing gin with a smooth and balanced finish.”

The new gin is recommended served with tonic water or mixed in cocktails, such as a Spritz or Collins.

Sipsmith Strawberry Smash is available to buy from sipsmith.com and from Tesco stores and online, priced at RRP £28.50 (US$39).
