Seafood seasoning brand Old Bay has teamed up with George’s Beverage Company to create a vodka inspired by the spice mix.
The 35% ABV vodka is made from corn, distilled six times and flavoured with Old Bay, a blend of 18 herbs and spices that’s often used in seafood recipes.
The spirit is produced at McClintock Distilling in Frederick, Maryland, in the US. It was developed for use in a range of cocktails, as well as for sipping straight.
“The idea to collaborate to craft Old Bay Vodka made perfect sense from the start,” said Greg David, co-owner of George’s Beverage Company, which produces a range of cocktail mixes.
“We already had national distribution with top liquor distributors and a sustainable supply chain. The next step was identifying a local craft distillery that we could trust and that shared the same commitment to quality, craftmanship and sustainability, we found all this in McClintock Distilling.”
Old Bay’s savoury spirit takes cues from American fast food chain Arby’s, which launched its own fry-inspired vodka line last year.
Priced around US$18.99, Old Bay Vodka will roll out this month in Maryland and Delaware, with distribution by Breakthru Beverage.
