Bruichladdich Launches 13th Annual Octomore Series

Bruichladdich Distillery has unveiled the 13th annual series of Octomore, its heavily peated single malt.

Bottled close to cask strength, each expression in this trio of releases matured for five years before a secondary finishing period.

“This 13th series is made up of a selection of incredible single malts with a real complexity and depth of flavor,” says Bruichladdich Distillery Head Distiller, Adam Hannett. “Each one has its own distinct character while still staying true to the Octomore DNA, balancing intense peat smoke with our elegant signature style.”

Octomore 13.1 was malted to 137.3 PPM. The spirit finished in fresh ex-American oak casks after its five-year maturation, resulting in notes of toffee, coconut and vanilla, the company reports.

Like 13.1, Octomore 13.2 was distilled from 100% Scottish Mainland barley. It was also malted to 137.3 PPM, but instead matured in first fill Oloroso butts from Jerez, Spain. The sherry influence complements the smoke of the single malt, the company says.

Octomore 13.3 matured in a parcel of first fill ex-American whiskey barrels, with a supplementary selection in second fill European oak casks. This whisky was malted to 129.3 PPM, and has notes of vanilla and brown sugar, counterbalanced with fresh fruit, the company reports.

The full Octomore 13 series, including the 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3, is available online at bruichladdich.com and in specialist whisky retailers this month. The post Bruichladdich Launches 13th Annual Octomore Series first appeared on Beverage Dynamics.
