With 2022 nearing an end, Barrell Craft Spirits has released its annual Barrell Bourbon New Year, bottling 2023.
Each autumn for the past five years, the BCS team has created a blend of bourbons as a toast to the new year ahead.
Barrell Bourbon New Year 2023 contains a selection of 5, 6, 7, 8, 10-year-old straight bourbon whiskeys. These were distilled in TN, IN, KY, OH, WY, NY, TX and MD, before blending and bottling in KY.
The 2023 expression begins with a classic bourbon nose of brioche and caramel, the company reports. Added to that is sandalwood, a wisp of smoke, amaretto, coconut macaroons, cream soda, gooseberry, quince, lime cordial, flint, limestone and beeswax. On the palate is syrupy oak sugars, black cherry soda, roasted molé, vanilla, nutmeg, cardamom, aniseed, herbaceous rye notes, rose hip, wormwood and peppercorn.
The finish brings candied chili pepper, lemon, horchata, creaminess, white chocolate and cashew, the candy adds.
As with all BCS products, Barrell Bourbon New Year 2023 comes bottled at cask strength, 113.54 proof. It hits shelves now, for a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
