Luther actor Idris Elba has partnered with Maison Ferrand as he moves into Cognac with his Porte Noire brand.
Elba launched his Champagne and Provence rosé brand Porte Noire in 2020 in collaboration with wine connoisseur David Farber.
“Cognac is something I’ve always appreciated for its complexity and richness,” said Elba. “I wanted to create something that felt like an extension of what we’ve already done with Porte Noire, something luxurious but approachable.”
Bottled at 40% ABV, tasting notes for Porte Noire Cognac include dried apricot, vanilla, subtle oak, hints of honey and caramel.
The Cognac is described as versatile, and is recommended for sipping neat and mixing in cocktails.
Alexandre Gabriel, owner of Maison Ferrand, said: “As owner and master blender of Maison Ferrand, I have always looked for great sources of inspiration to make unique Cognacs and meeting Idris was one of those moments.
“We spent time together and realised all that we had in common, like our desire to create delicious products from responsible agriculture.
“Together we wanted to create a one-of-a-kind Cognac. I’m looking forward to this beautiful partnership, making the great Cognac that we dream of together.”
Porte Noire Cognac comes with an RRP of £79.99 (US$104). It is available from this month (November) via Harvey Nichols, Amathus Wines, Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange, Porte Noire King’s Cross (shop and online), and drinksone.com.
Elba added: “From the vineyard to the glass, the craft behind Cognac is nothing short of extraordinary. With Porte Noire Cognac, we’ve created something that tells the story of the region but also feels fresh and new, inviting both seasoned Cognac enthusiasts and newcomers alike to enjoy.”
