Moët Hennessy Travel Retail has introduced a Hennessy store at Haikou Meilan International Airport in China’s Hainan Province.
The boutique, part of a collaboration with China Duty Free Group (CDF), can be found in the T2 Domestic Terminal, and spans 80 square metres.
The store is designed around the theme ‘The Essence of Hennessy’ and features warm white limestone and charcoal oak, intended to highlight the brand’s ‘versatility, complexity, and openness to differences and complementary forces’.
Alongside its flagship range of Cognacs, the store also offers Hennessy’s Year of the Dragon collection, with bottles designed by Chinese artist Yang Yongliang.
Also available is a one-litre bottle of the brand’s XXO expression, which is a duty free exclusive.
Earlier this month, parent company LVMH revealed that Hennessy Cognac was experiencing a mixed recovery in China. The wine and spirits arm of the firm was the only part of the business to experience a decline in sales in its full-year sales results.
It’s been a difficult start to the year for Cognac brands, with both LVMH and Rémy Cointreau struggling to grow sales and an anti-dumping investigation from China under way.
Last year, LVMH unveiled a multi-million-euro investment to open a five-floor bar in Paris, France.
Hennessy Cognac celebrated 50 years of hip-hop last year by partnering with Grammy Award-winning rapper Nas.
