E&A Scheer sources rum from Japan and Haiti

Amsterdam-based E&A Scheer has expanded its portfolio with new rums from Australia, Cambodia, Haiti, Japan and Tahiti.

Rum specialist and bulk supplier E&A Scheer and its sister company, The Main Rum Company, is aiming to meet demand for premium, high-quality expressions by sourcing rums across different styles, ages and origins.

Notable additions to E&A Scheer’s range include unaged rums and rums aged in wine and Bourbon casks from multiple distilleries in Australia. These include styles produced from both fresh cane juice and molasses.

Four types of rum have also been sourced from producers in Japan, of which two are distilled from brown sugar on a pot still and two from high-grade molasses on a hybrid still.

From Tahiti, the company has collected two types of rum produced from molasses on a column still.

E&A Scheer will also introduce a Haitian option distilled from fresh cane juice.

One-year-old rums from Cambodia, produced on both pot and hybrid stills from local molasses, have also joined the portfolio.

The new arrivals will complement E&A Scheer’s portfolio, which includes rums from Vietnam, Thailand, Europe, Africa, the Philippines, Indonesia, the Caribbean and South America.

Chief commercial officer Niels Benschop said: “We are thrilled to enhance our portfolio with these rums sourced from these unique rum-making regions. Blending rum is an art form, with each blend telling a unique and authentic story.

“This expansion provides us with more opportunities to develop completely unique blends tailored to meet our customers’ specific needs and position them at the forefront of industry trends.”

In January 2024, E&A Scheer was acquired by global investment firm Platinum Equity for an undisclosed sum.
