Venezuelan rum brand Diplomático has added a 2007 Single Vintage bottling to its Prestige Range.
The Prestige Range also comprises Diplomático Ambassador Selection and Single Vintages from the years 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.
“With a bright dark amber colour, the 2007 Single Vintage opens with harmonious notes of ripe red fruits accompanied with aromas of vanilla, spices and chocolate that provide a delicate and subtle aromatic balance,” said master blender Nelson Hernandez.
The rum joins the Vintage collection, which comprises bottlings that master blenders have initially set aside because they have been matured in a ‘unique or extraordinary way’.
These casks are then collated into vintage batches. After being aged for 12 years in ex-Bourbon and single malt whisky casks, the rums are finished for one extra year in oloroso Sherry casks.
Hernandez added: “Sweet notes of ripe fruit, wood, chocolate and coffee are perceived on the palate, adding a composed roundness and smoothness that leads to a long-lasting and velvety finish.”
Diplomático Rum 2007 vintage is available to the trade and specialist retailers in the UK, distributed by Specialty Brands, for RRP £105 (US$117) from the end of October.
It was recently revealed that Diplomático rum is to be acquired by Brown-Forman for an undisclosed sum. The deal is expected to close within 90 days, subject to certain conditions.
