Diageo relaunches 22-year-old Blade and Bow Bourbon

Spirits producer Diageo will reintroduce Blade and Bow 22-Year-Old Bourbon in limited quantities next month to mark 85 years since the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Kentucky was opened.

The Blade and Bow Bourbon brand was first unveiled in 2015 with two variants: the core Blade and Bow and the 22-year-old bottling. The brand was created to pay homage to the Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky.

The 22-year-old contains some of the last liquid produced at the site before it closed in 1992. The Louisville distillery was founded in 1935. Since 2014, the site has served as a tourism attraction for Diageo’s Bulleit Bourbon brand as part of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

The rerelease of the 22-year-old expression in September also coincides with Bourbon Heritage Month, which celebrates Bourbon as American’s national spirit.

“We are honoured to call the Stitzel-Weller Distillery home to Blade and Bow Bourbons, and to play a part in preserving the careful craftsmanship and unique artistry that was established and perfected within these walls,” said Meghan Redler, brand manager for Blade and Bow.

“Releasing Blade and Bow 22-Year-Old this year during Bourbon Heritage Month allows us to pay homage to this historic distillery with our finest liquid.”

According to Doug Kragel, lead educator for Blade and Bow, the Bourbon offers a nose of toasted oak layered with vanilla bean, figs and a light touch of dark caramel. It also has notes of sugar and apples baked in honey and spices.

Blade and Bow 22-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey will be available to buy in 12 US states from September including: California, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, New York, South Carolina, Illinois, Kentucky, Washington DC, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia.

The Bourbon is also available on Drizly and priced from US$216 per 750ml bottle.
