Independent Tequila maker Cazcabel has opened its £37 million (US$44.9m) brand home and distillery in San Francisco de Asís, Jalisco.
Located in the Vazquez family’s hometown, Hacienda Cazcabel employs more than 500 people in the local community from its own agave fields and the new brand home and distillery. Production at the distillery began this summer.
The site officially opened in November and celebrates traditional Mexican architecture and modern Mexican design.
Made with locally sourced materials, the distillery showcases the Vazquez family’s heritage in agave farming and commitment to sustainable practices. A mural outside the distillery by local artist Alejandro Rodriguez celebrates the family.
To mark the distillery’s opening, Cazcabel hosted an opening event attended by more than 300 people.
Uziel Vazquez from Cazcabel Tequila commented: “Opening the doors to Hacienda Cazcabel is not just the start of a new chapter – it’s a celebration of family, tradition, craftsmanship and the spirit of Mexico. Every bottle we create is a tribute to the rich heritage of Tequila. This distillery embodies our commitment to producing something exceptional whilst ensuring everything we achieve is in harmony with our surrounding environment to benefit future generations.
“The unveiling of Hacienda Cazcabel marks an incredible journey for us, the Vazquez family. We are the fourth generation of agave farmers and Tequila producers, and every generation has been equally committed to growing agave, driven by the family motto ‘Suena pero no vivas dormido’ – ‘Dream but don’t live asleep’. That is what we set our values by today.”
Hacienda Cazcabel will be open to the public from summer 2025, with an agave farming and Tequila production tour, bar and restaurant.
The site also includes a rooftop bar with a sunset view across Los Altos from 2,000 metres above sea level.
The community
Cazcabel is dedicated to giving back to the land and the community.
For each of its employees, a tree will be planted in the gardens at Hacienda Cazcabel, symbolising their contribution to every bottle of Tequila produced. To date, 110 trees have been planted, each accompanied by a stone bearing the respective employee’s name.
No trees were cut down or removed during the development of the new distillery. One of the brand’s key values is to act as ‘guardians of the land,’ which has resulted in trees being preserved in unique locations throughout the site, including in the centre of the courtyard.
Cazcabel is committed to creating more career opportunities for women in the local community. Currently, women make up 50% of the distillery’s workforce.
The company offers flexible working policies and training and development opportunities, enabling women to progress into various roles within the distillery and brand. Notably, master distiller Yadira Hernandez Lozana plays a key role in leading the initiative.
