Campari Group hack leads to data loss

Aperol owner Campari Group was targeted by a malware attack on 1 November, which resulted in the loss and encryption of data on some of its servers.

Campari Group identified the malware attack on 1 November and took “immediate action” to support cyber security experts that limited the attack’s spread.

In a statement, Campari Group said: “The security and confidentiality of all data is a top priority for us. Unfortunately, we acknowledge that there has been some data loss: we are still investigating the attack and, in particular, determining to which extent there has been any loss of confidentiality and loss of availability of personal and business data.

“At this stage, we cannot completely exclude that some personal and business data has been taken.”

Since identifying the attack, Campari Group worked with cyber-security experts to contain the malware and implement “all possible extra security measures”.

The attack has also been brought to the attention of the relevant data protection authorities, as well as the Italian cyber police and the FBI.

Campari Group added: “We apologise for any possible inconvenience this might cause to our customers and partners and underline the need to be extra vigilant in the current circumstances, particularly with regards to suspect communications.

“We are permanently monitoring the situation to assess and minimise the recovery time.

“Hence, as a result of this longer than initially envisaged recovery phase, we expect this situation to have some temporary effect on the group’s financial performance. We shall continue to provide further updates in a timely manner.”

Campari Group has resumed select IT services following the installation of extra security measures. A number of IT systems remain temporarily suspended or operating with limited functionality across multiple sites.
