British brandy producer Burnt Faith has launched its Cask Series, beginning with a limited edition expression finished in Bourbon barrels.
The brandy – made with four different grapes; Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Muscat Blanc – was matured in barrels from Kentucky’s Heaven Hill distillery for three years.
The expression is described as a ‘London spirit meets Kentucky smoke’.
Burnt Faith founder Simon Wright said: “We’re turning tradition on its head. As a category, brandy needs to move forward, the only way it can do this is appealing to the innovation and adventure that drinkers expect.
“The Cask Series has been a very natural extension to the brand, visitors to the brandy house have always commented so highly on the results of these individual casks, so we know the demand for exploration is there.
“This Bourbon cask is just the beginning of where this series will go but we’ve shown our intent from day one – big bold smoky flavours, Bourbon and whiskey fans are going to love it.”
Bourbon Cask Brandy marks the start of a series that Burnt Faith said will ‘redefine what brandy making is all about’.
The expression has notes of sweet vanilla on the nose, plus cinder toffee, coconut, raisins, and butterscotch on the palate. The finish then features ‘subtle hints of peppercorns and dry banana bread’.
Sitting at 40% ABV, only 800 bottles are available for an RRP of £60 (US$75), from the brand’s website or directly at its brandy house and bar in Walthamstow, northeast London.
Purchases can only be made during the 72-hour window, from 12pm on 10 April. Bottles can be secured now on the brand’s website.
Burnt Faith, which is the first dedicated brandy distillery on the British Isles, has raised more £2 million (US$2.5m) in its first funding round. It opened its distillery in March 2023.
It is one of The Spirits Business’s brandy brands to watch this year and its inaugural expression was also one of our 50 most innovative spirits launches from 2023.
