Berry Bros opens Daftmill ballot

Wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has opened a ballot for the 2009 Daftmill Summer Release, a vatting of Bourbon and Sherry casks marking a first for the Lowland distillery.

The ballot opened on Tuesday and will run until 6pm on 19 January. Only 600 bottles of the expression will be available to purchase.

Jonny McMillan, Berry Bros & Rudd assistant spirits reserve manager, said: “The first vatting of Bourbon and Sherry casks from Daftmill shows a new side to the distillery and in my opinion, this balance and finesse suits the delicate spirit perfectly.”

Bottled at 46% ABV, the 2009 Daftmill Summer Release is priced at £100 (US$137) per bottle.

Tasting notes include aromas of tropical fruit, mango and cola cubes after some time in the glass, leading to a spicy palate with clootie dumpling and lemon zest, then toffee. The finish brings flavours from the Sherry cask with gingerbread.

To register for the ballot, visit bbr.com/daftmill. Successful buyers will be notified by Friday 22 January.
