BCB Pouring Digital unveils seminar lineup

Bar Convent Berlin has revealed the schedule of seminars and speakers for its online show next month.

Like the majority of events this year, on-trade show Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) was forced to switch to an online schedule for 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

BCB will host a week-long digital event from 12-18 October, called Pouring Digital. Each seminar will be recorded and made available to view online.

“With our digital lecture programme, we want to help the industry get back on its feet in these difficult times,” said education director Angus Winchester, who curated the programme.

“To do this, we need motivating inspiration, well-founded further training opportunities and a lively exchange between all players.

“For example, the arranger of the Berlin education programme 2020 relies on a trenchant selection of topics and an industry-representative diversity of top-class speakers, which really should pick up every BCB Pouring Digital participant.

“As a source of inspiration this year, I have not only been able to attract the smartest characters on our scene. Up-and-coming personalities and credible role models are also intended to give the community the push it needs.”

The event will include seminars led by rum expert Ian Burrell, bar operator Sean Finter, Sorel Liqueur creator Jackie Summers and bartender Yangdup Lama.

In addition to seminars tackling the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on the industry, the schedule will include topics on sustainability and craft, as well as on-trend spirits.

Burrell will host ‘Jamaican rum’s fight to establish their geographical indication worldwide’, while consumers can also catch a presentation on ‘Baijiu cocktails: the Future of Chinese Spirits’.

Furthermore, the programme will also discuss inclusive topics such as the role of African-American mixologists in the early American cocktail history, and the importance of the LGBTQIA community.

BCB will also continue to focus on tastings with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust offering online sessions on ‘Smoke & Strong Water’, ‘Who put this banana in my bottle?’, ‘Sweet vs Dry – Words Matter’, ‘Subjective Objectivity’ and ‘Herbs and Spice and all things nice’.

The show has also partnered with online educator Park Street University to offers lectures for participants who want to expand their business or skills. Topics that will be covered include direct sales to end consumers, how brands can engage in social justice and the ever-changing role of third-party marketing companies and how brands use them.
