Arran to auction exclusive whisky bottle

Bottle number one of an exclusive Isle of Arran Distillers single cask whisky will be auctioned to raise funds for the upkeep of the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world.

Whisky.Auction will sell bottle number one of an Arran Malt Distillery Exclusive Single Cask whisky to raise funds to maintain the PS Waverley boat, the last seagoing passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world.

The bottle is the first in a limited edition run of 225 bottles of a 12 year-old single malt aged in a single Bourbon barrel. The whisky is bottled at 59.6% ABV.

The Isle of Arran Distillers originally bottled the expression to raise money to help finish boiler repairs that were needed to keep the paddle-steamer going during the 2020 season.

However, following a difficult year and some fresh damage to the Waverley, funds were needed to ensure the boat could be fixed during the winter in preparation for public trips next year.

The distillery’s tour guide, Campbell Laing, will sell his own first bottle of the whisky through the auction to raise funds for the boat.

The Isle of Arran Distillers team said: “The Waverley is one of the last sea-going paddle steamers in the world and is a real institution of the Clyde, with many Scots holding fond memories of times spent on it enjoying the journey up and down the west coast.

“We at Isle of Arran Distillers, together with our thoughtful and generous tour guide Campbell Laing, want to do our best to help ensure that the Waverley keeps sailing.

“It is not every day you can find bottle number one of an Arran single cask, and what better occasion to get involved, donate and support a very good cause.”

Bottle number one will be sold with a hip flask and a mini glass decanter with matching glasses.

The auction will be live for 10 days from Sunday 29 November to Tuesday 8 December. Consumers hoping to bid on the bottle can register to take part on the Whisky.Auction website.
