Amsterdam Craft Gin Company gains investment

The Amsterdam Craft Gin Company has received €100,000 (US$123,000) in funding to expand internationally and develop new products.

Collected from ‘well-known angel investors and top executives’, the investment will be used to create new line extensions under the Gin 1689 brand, and develop the product in markets across China, eastern Europe and the Americas.

Alexander Janssens, co-founder of the Amsterdam-based company, said: “We are excited and proud about our new investments and are looking forward to strong growth in Europe and beyond.

“Furthermore, product development is also important to us and we see a shift in the market to smaller packaging, for example 500ml and RTD [ready-to-drink].

“Additionally, in this competitive arena it’s important to explore and launch new product flavours to differentiate ourselves from our competitors. This new investment round enables us to achieve all of this.”

Distilled in Schiedam, the Netherlands, Gin 1689 was developed by Janssens and Patrick van der Peet. The Dutch brand recently added the 1689 Queen Mary Pink gin to its range, which is named after the wife of William III of England.

The Amsterdam Craft Gin Company launched its Gin 1689 brand in the UK last year through importer Distilled Brands.
